Friends Helping Friends!! New York Open Mic Podcast!

Hey guys!! My amazing, insightful and talented friend BrokeMC has started a great podcast series called the New York Open Mic Podcast, where he shares the talents and magic of open mic performers around New York and interviews open mic hosts. One of the many great things about this podcast is how complexly varied the performances are. So many genres of audial expression-  freestyles, impromptu poetry, folk, punk, rock, beat boxing, just to name a few- are presented by first timers and veterans, sometimes side by side, that you can almost feel yourself in the room sometimes. ALSO! Broke does a great job of sharing information on the venues and musicians in the podcast, so finding a new favorite musician is easy! His Open Mic directory is also a huge help to aspiring musicians and performers who are looking for places to express their truth. There are only a few episodes so far, but I’m excited to hear what the future has in store for this podcast.

Make sure to check out New York Open Mic Podcast!

This time on Vector thursday!! Here are a few plays on my favorite latin phrase, Ars Gratia Artis, which means art for arts sake. Its always been a thing of mine, a belief that art must exist for its own sake, on its own merit. i hope you guys enjoy these, please leave comments or feedback!

And remember- if you draw, paint, sculpt, shoot photos, dance, dj, rap, make beats, tell jokes, write stories, make clothes, grow food, make jewelry, shoot movies, crochet, make toys, build stages, play instruments or do anything else creative, please hit us up and we’ll figure out how to best show off your art!

Vector Thursday!

A little late but still in there for vector thursday!

This handcuff is vector of a piece of jewelry that one of my collaborators owns. It’s an iconic piece of branding that he uses on a t shirt on livetees.store, a next level tshirt company that makes enhanced t shirts that react to your phone, for his long running urban magazine Felon Magazine.

This piece was something i came up with when i was first getting into the design of sacred geometry, metatrons cube, hexagons and circles mating and mixing. I love playing with these elements in my everyday design play still. i really dig the weird moire pattern between the circles.

These designs were going to be for memorial t shirts for a really good friend of mine, my first best friend after i moved to california, who passed away. he was practically an icon in the town where we met and the people who knew him usually had a crazy story about him. He had a great sense of fashion and creativity and an eye for imagery. he could help you find the magic in your work before you knew it was there.

See ya next time!!

Vector Thursday!

On thursdays from now on, i’m going to try to post a view vectors that i’m either working on or have finished playing with. comments and suggestions are welcome!!

This was a flag design i did for my burning man camp a few years ago, Furbar: the Playa’s only frozen fruit smoothie. we had a tiny little art car that was dressed like an alpaca, watching it gumby-glide across the desert is something i’ll never forget.

This was a flower i was playing around when i was still sorta teaching myself about making/designing mandalas. it’s rough but i think it’s pretty.

Oh, the breaking away logo. a very close friend of mine and art/kook collaborator named Jamo once told me about a cycling movie called breaking away. i love movies but i’d never seen it and this post has actually reminded me to find it and watch. theres a great story behind the breaking away rest stop, i’m sure i’ll tell it one day.
